Planting A Seedling

Hope. Resilience. Solidarity.

When tree planting becomes a symbolic and caring act.

We envision a summer where people plant trees everywhere along the proposed Alto High Speed Rail corridor as a symbol of hope for a bright future on this land, and as a commitment to seeing these trees reach maturity.

This means advocating for what is best for our communities - stopping the Alto project - and caring for each others' mental health during this difficult time.

Join the Trees for Hope movement

We invite you to join us in planting Trees for Hope this summer. These trees represent our collective hope for a promising future for our region and a symbol of resilience and solidarity for those who are worried about losing their land due to the ALTO HSR project.

We want you to plant your trees as visible commitment to your community--we would like to make sure that everyone who plants a tree gets to see it grow to maturity.

That means advocating for what is best for our communities - stopping the Alto project - and caring for each others' mental health during this difficult time.

How to participate

#treesforhope

Residents in (or near) the proposed Alto corridor

Plant a tree on your land.

Plant it with the confidence that you will see it grow to maturity. Plant it as a sign that we are determined to do everything we can, as a community, to make sure everyone sees their trees reach maturity.

This means advocating for what is best for our region, and taking care of each other as we face uncertainty.

Read over our mental health tips, inform yourself about mental health resources in your area, and don’t be afraid to seek help.

Share a picture of you planting your Tree for Hope and tell us about your story.

Residents in other parts of Canada

Plant a tree in solidarity for those who are worried about losing their land.

Check in on friends and family in the proposed corridor – many of us are not okay, and it means the world to us to know that people care, even if the proposed corridor isn’t in their backyard.

Take action against Alto. Contact your MP or Transport Minister, Steve McKinnon to about your concerns. We need voices from other regions to join in on our common message that Alto is a bad choice for all Canadians.

Community Tree Planting

Want to do more?

If you have the capacity to do more, why not organize a community tree planting event or tree distribution to encourage more people to join this movement.

We have templates and messaging you can use. Reach out to pre-existing tree planting or tree distribution events or even your local nursery to ask if they can welcome this messaging into their event.

For example, residents in East Hawkesbury are collaborating with the township on their annual tree distribution, to ensure 150 families receive mental health information with their trees.
